Restylane

What is it?

Restylane is a hyaluronic acid-based gel that is crystal clear and has a high similarity with the hyaluronic acid that is present in the human body and most other living organisms. It is injected in small quantities into the skin. During some treatments, the gel is evenly injected under the skin to restore skin volume and improve skin structure. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is non-animal sourced, which means that skin tests are not required, and has a very small risk of allergy or hypersensitivity reactions. An inherent property of hyaluronic acid is its stability. It has various functions in our body, varying from retaining skin elasticity to keeping connective tissue lubricated.

Hyaluronic acid binds large amounts of water, keeping the skin moist; that is another unique property of the NASHA products (Non-Animal Stabilised Hyaluronic Acid products). Restylane products are pure and have a long-lasting result. This is achieved by using high-purity hyaluronic acid combined with the unique stabilisation process, i.e. the NASHA technology. Natural hyaluronic acid is broken down by your body after a few days. That is why it is highly important to stabilise the hyaluronic acid injected with the NASHA technology, thanks to which the result is long-lasting and your body absorbs the substance without any problems (bio-compatibility). The entire process results in Restylane – a safe product that is accepted readily by your body, giving a long-lasting aesthetically pleasing result.

What is Restylane used for?

Restylane is used for a beauty treatment that is natural and safe, and that is moreover adapted to your specific wishes. Restylane gives a natural-looking result and is based on the unique NASHA technology; that means that the hyaluronic acid in Restylane is almost identical to the hyaluronic acid your body produces. Restylane has already been used on millions of people, making it one of the world’s most widely-used hyaluronic acid-based injectables. Restylane offers a wide range of possibilities – from lip volume or lip contour enhancement to skin rejuvenation - which meet your individual beauty wishes.

Risks

Restylane injections are safe if given by an experienced practitioner. Restylane can be used long term without affecting your general health.

What are the side effects?

The side effects seen most are swelling or bruising around the injection site, headache or flu-like symptoms.

How can I prepare for the treatment?

Bruising can be prevented in part by taking Arnica drops or tablets before the treatment. They are available from your chemist. If necessary, we will give you an ice-pack to reduce the swelling.

If you feel nervous about the treatment, it is important that you are open and honest about this to your doctor. Knowing that, he will be able to support you while you undergo the treatment. If you are of a nervous disposition, please contact our practice.

Is there anything to consider after the treatment?

It is advisable that you do not use any make-up or creams within 6-8 hours of the treatment. This helps prevent infections. If you would rather camouflage your face immediately after the treatment? We have a camouflage cream on sale that contains Arnica. It is intended for skin care, reduces swelling and is completely sterile.

The first 24 hours after the treatment, you should not go to the sauna, undergo any infrared treatment, exercise or drink alcohol to excess.
